Red Rock Coulee Natural Area

Free Desktop Wallpaper Background Image

As a little bonus for my friends and followers every month I provide a free image for use as your desktop background wallpaper on your computer, mobile phone, or tablet. Each beautiful photo is a picture that I have created and it always includes a calendar overlay for the month. I know that I’m always looking for a calendar and having one on my desktop or phone wallpaper is very convenient!

Hiking at Red Rock Coulee

The Red Rock Coulee natural area is home to hundreds of “spherical concretions”, which are huge red rocks that have eroded much more slowly than the surrounding soil. They are similar to hoodoos, which are more commonly found in the badlands of central Alberta. Red Rock Coulee is one of those extremely interesting places that is unlike anywhere else that you’ll ever visit!

I had the chance to spend most of a day there this summer and took the opportunity to explore the area very thoroughly. I made some really wonderful images in the afternoon and at sunset, and then this Star Trail image was made late in the evening after the full moon had climbed above the horizon. The moon provided most of the light for the foreground rocks in this scene!

You can see more of images from the trip in the Fine Art Prints collection on the website:
