Total Lunar Eclipse over the Calgary Skyline

Free Desktop Wallpaper

As a little bonus for my friends and followers every month I provide a free image for use as your desktop background wallpaper on your computer. Each beautiful photo is a picture that I have created and it always includes a calendar overlay for the month. I know that I’m always looking for a calendar and having one on my desktop is very convenient!

This months wallpaper image comes from Scotsman’s Hill in Calgary and features the total lunar eclipse as it descended over the city. It was the perfect situation as the eclipse and the full moon aligned with the sunrise on a beautiful winter morning. The fact that the timing of the moonset and the sunrise allowed for the rich blue sky and some detail in the foreground while also leaving the moon visible. Normally if you photograph the moon in the middle of the night you will see only a very bright moon and a very black sky, so this timing was perfect for photography. I was also very excited when I calculated that the moon and the skyline would align from this vantage point on Scotsman’s Hill.
