Free Desktop Wallpaper for September 2010

This months background wallpaper image comes from the prairies to the East of Calgary. I love roaming the prairies and although I've been too busy to get out for this kind of personal photography very often lately, I recently managed to make a trip out to enjoy the sunset. It's really amazing how lush and green the countryside is this summer. In a normal year it would be brown as far as the eye can see. Not so this year. We've had so much rain in the Calgary area that the land is green from horizon to horizon. It's really amazing to see. As a result the crops in the fields appear to be vibrant and healthy. I stopped at the edge of a wheat field to catch the last rays of the sun as they lit up a grain bin, but very quickly got distracted by the grain itself. I'm no farmer but I believe that these are stalks of wheat... New for this month is a mobile version of the wallpaper! This version is sized perfectly for the iPad, but it can also be used for other mobile devices including all Android phones. Please let me know if there are any other formats or sizes you would like to see. Download To install the images as your desktop background, simply click on the link below depending on the file resolution you would like to use, then right-click on the larger image and select “Set as Desktop Background...”. Enjoy.

Kieran’s 7th Birthday Party

When you mix a child's birthday party with some action sports you usually get one crazy group of people! How can you not get excited when you see kids having fun? I love to photograph sports and action and so this event was lots of fun to cover. I've actually been to Altadore Gymnastics club many times to watch and photograph my own children taking lessons, so I had a pretty good idea of some of the shots that I wanted to make. The kids didn't have to do anything fancy for me either, they just had to be themselves. I even got to have some of the ice cream cake afterwards! Congratulations to Kieran for turning another year older!

Agnew Family Reunion

I was invited to attend a party that, although billed as a 60th Birthday Party, was as much a family reunion for the extended family as it was to celebrate the birthday. The family has always been extremely close and they barely need a reason to have a party. As a result it was a large group; somewhere around 50 people! It was a beautiful day at an old farm property in rural Ontario, which made for a beautiful backdrop for the party. Everyone had a great time catching up, eating great food, and playing games. One special part of the day that I really enjoyed watching was when trees were planted in the names of all of the young children in the family. The trees were marked with the children's names so that they can find them when they return to visit in the future. It was a really neat idea and I'm sure that everyone will remember it for a long time. Here are a few of my favorite images from the event:
