Portraits and Group Shots

I had a recent corporate photography session with the Board of Directors and several senior employees of MCF Housing for Seniors. MCF is a local non-profit organization that provides "affordable, safe and secure housing options for Calgary's seniors". The photo session was held in one of the facilities that the organization operates. They wanted a group portrait that included only the volunteer members of their Board of Directors, as well as another group shot including the Directors and the Senior Employees in attendance. They also needed business head shots for several people as well. I pre-scouted the location to make sure that it would be suitable for the images that I was being asked to provide. As soon as I walked into the lodge I knew that I wanted to do the shoot right in the middle of the main lobby. The building has a rather grand entrance that opens onto a magnificent central lobby with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows on either end. The residence wings are arrayed to each side of the lobby and their are balconies at each end of each floor that open onto the lobby. The residents of the lodge use the lobby area for meals, social gatherings, and special events. There is a large open area in the center of the room that I thought would be perfect for the group shots. I knew that some of the residents would be eating their breakfast in the background of the scene, but to my mind that added to the images rather than detracting. I felt that it would highlight the softer side of the organization (and it's reason for being) while also reducing the corporate feeling automatically associated [...]

Results from Pawsitively Dog Park Portrait Day

In my head I thought that I had posted these images already, but while going back through the blog today I realized that I hadn't done so. In fact I discovered a few other sessions that I had intended to post that aren't there either, so I'll have to get around to doing those ones soon too! Anyway, these images are from a special pet photography promotion that I ran in conjunction with the great people over at Pawsitively Natural Dog Daycare & Training Academy. We met at River Park off-leash park for some fun with the dogs and some pet portraits for their humans. It was very cold out that morning but it was a beautiful day and we got some great results! I'm looking forward to doing more of these dog park portrait days in the spring and summer. If you're interested in having some portraits made with your pets then either stay tuned, or feel free to give me a call anytime and we can set something up. If you've been following along on the blog you'll no doubt realize that I've done a couple of events with Pawsitively Natural, and there will definitely be more to come. Stay tuned for details about a really great charity fundraiser coming up!

Product Showcase – The 3×3 Children’s Portrait Session

Primary Colors 3x3 Portrait Session & Print Package This is a first look at a brand new Portrait Session Package that I'm rolling out called the 3x3 Portrait Session. These fun and interactive sessions make use of T-Shirts with the three primary colors. Sessions can be booked for 1, 2, or 3 participants. Each member of the group will wear each color of shirt at least once, and they will all be photographed individually and in groups with the other participants. Note that these sessions are studio sessions that are done in my home studio. All of the images will be created on a pure white background. Initially the 3x3 Portrait Sessions are being rolled out as a package deal that includes a choice of the following print products: One (1) 18"x18" Canvas Gallery Wrapped Print, ready for framing. The canvas is wrapped around a 1" stretcher bar and contains a collage of 9 images that are individually bounded by hand drawn doodle frames. Each canvas will typically have 6 individual images and 3 group images. OR Two (2) Leather Bound Folios, each containing three 8"x8" images that are individually bounded by hand drawn doodle frames. The images chosen for each folio will depend entirely on the number of participants. This choice is ideal when 2 people are involved, in which case 2 individual images and 1 group image will be used for each folio. Note that the images selected for each folio may be different. The total price for the 3x3 Portrait session is $399 +gst. This includes the session fee and your choice of One 18" Gallery Wrapped Canvas print (9 images total), or Two 3-panel 8"x8" Leather Folios (6 images total). Additional [...]

Earl and Bella

I've been doing lots of pet photography lately and I had a great visit with Earl the Pug, and Bella the Staffordshire Terrier, in my studio. These dogs are both beautiful and they were wonderful models! It's been awhile since we've had a dog around the house and my daughter Melanie was very excited when these gentle friends arrived. She appointed herself their caretaker and made she they were comfortable and doing what they were supposed to be doing. She also helped to get each dogs attention and make sure they were looking at the camera when I wanted them too. It was a very fun session and I'm looking forward to doing a lot more dog photography sessions coming up. A few of my favorite images from the session are found below, and more are in the Client Area.
