Ready for a Winter Portrait Session?

Snowshoeing at Lake Minnewanka Outdoor Family Portrait Sessions in Calgary We've had a wacky winter here in Calgary and it's been pretty hard to convince anyone that we should go outside for a Family Portrait Session. The simple truth is that I love to shoot outdoors all year round and the weather has to be pretty terrible to stop me. But I also have to go where my clients want me to go, and when the weather is wishy washy, not really winter but also not really nice, then they usually don't want to go outside... But now that we have a beautiful blanket of fresh snow covering all the dirt and muck there's no better time to get outside for a Family Portrait Session. To make a long story short, we hiked to the top of Cirque Peak in the Canadian Rocky Mountains for a photoshoot. The hike is a 16km round trip to the top of a 10,000 foot peak, and it is extremely difficult! Eddy and I carried lots of photography gear and Lauren carried her wedding dress in her backpack. She changed at the top of the mountain and we had a fantastic photoshoot. [...]

My Year in Review

I prepared the above video as part of a presentation that I did last week for some of the other local small businesses that I work with and I wanted to share it here as well. It is an animated slideshow that shows off some of my favorite photography from the last year. I did so many photography sessions all over Calgary last year and it was really hard to narrow it down to just a few images. I'm close to the end of my second full year as a full-time professional photographer and looking back at all the things I've done and the people I've met is nothing short of amazing. I love the work that I do and I'm so glad that I took the opportunity that life presented me with and ran with it. Thanks to all of you for supporting me and my business! I know I'm not really supposed to quote myself, but this is how I said it last year when I did my first "Year in Pictures" video, and I think it says it all perfectly: "Thank you to all of my clients and friends for allowing me to come into your lives, to participate and to observe. I will cherish every memory, and I look forward to working with all of you again soon!" Marissa Reckmann | Better Business Portrait

Marissa Reckmann Headshot Marissa recently came into my home studio for a Social Media Mini portrait session. She is the Director of Environmental Operations at AGAT Laboratories and needed a new headshot for use on the company website and her social media accounts. If you only need one image then these are very quick sessions and I try to make them as easy and painless as possible for you. This portrait was created on a rich red backdrop, but I have a wide variety of other backgrounds to choose from. When you book your headshot appointment we will discuss a few details, including the intended use of the image and the clothes you might wear, and I can help you choose the backdrop that you would like to use. I love this red one and I need to remember to use it more often! To learn more about Business Portrait sessions and to see some example images you can check out my dedicated Calgary Headshots website. AGAT Laboratories is a highly specialized, Canadian-based company that provides laboratory services worldwide. The company's operations encompass 12 scientific divisions to offer full-service solutions to multiple industry types within the Environmental, Energy, Mining, Industrial, Transportation, Agri-Food and Life Sciences sectors.

Movember Finale

Movember Self Portrait It's Not too Late to Donate This is a self-portrait I created to commemorate the final day of Movember 2011. It's been a good run but I'm excited to shave this thing off. Thanks to everyone for the support! We didn't raise as much money as I had hoped this year, but the Movember campaign really went mainstream. It really seemed like everyone was already inundated with information about it, so I didn't advertise my campaign as much I had planned to. That's good news though because I'm certain that a lot more money was raised this year than in any year in the past! If you haven't donated yet you still can! Your donation will support research and awareness of prostate cancer. If you don't like donating online then you can download a Movember donation form to send by mail instead.
