George Campbell | Better Business Portraits

I had an amazing business portrait session recently with George Campbell of Fall Line Systems Inc. Fall Line is a Calgary based management consulting firm that works "with ambitious organizations and their leaders, helping build the vision, capabilities and action required to achieve remarkable results." George came looking for business portraits for use in his corporate marketing materials, on the company website, and in social media promotions. He mentioned that he wanted something that he would be able to use for promotional materials where the background might get need to be removed from image first, so we shot a lot of images on a white background. But he also wanted some more traditional headshots for use in other media, so we also did quite a number of photos using my rich blue studio backdrop. George indicated that he could probably use several images, so we did a few different outfit combinations and a wide variety of poses. I wanted to make sure that he had a good selection of more traditionally posed images to choose from (for use as an avatar on LinkedIn and on the website), but I also wanted to give him a variety of other interesting choices so that he could choose the right photo for any particular need. We managed to create some really great images and we took advantage of the fact that George has a very happy and expressive face. I really enjoy this kind of session where we get the "safe images" out of the way first, and then we can work together to make something a little more creative. Fun, fun, fun! Andrew Lin | Better Business Portrait

Although the fall portrait season is in full swing, I still have some of my "normal" work going on at the same time. I had a great session that I wanted to share. Andrew is a Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX House of Real Estate in Calgary. He needed a business portrait for use on his marketing materials and social media accounts. He knew exactly the type of shot that he wanted, right down to the arrangement of the studio lighting for the portrait! This is very different from most of my portrait sessions. My clients typically don't know what they want or need and they are very open to suggestion. I always ask a few questions to make sure that I understand how and where the images will be used, and how many images the client wants. With that information I can suggest some appropriate clothing, backdrop color, and poses. But when the client knows what they want I'm happy to work with them to create a specific look and feel. In this case Andrew found another image in my portfolio that he liked and I was able to recreate the lighting from the previous session. It worked out really well and before Andrew left he had picked the image he wanted and I was able to get the final product out to him before the end of the day. Smooth! Steven Owad | Author Headshots

I had the pleasure of creating headshots for Steven Owad recently. Steven is a local crime novelist who has 2 published books to his credit. He is currently working on another book (Hard Currency, coming in June of 2012) and he needed some new portraits for use on his website and marketing materials. The image(s) will also be used for the cover of the new book. We had a fun creative portrait session and made lots of great images for Steve to choose from. Some of them were done on a white backdrop to make them easier to "cut out" from the background. You can see these images in use on Steven's updated website... Here are a few of my favorites:

PDawgs Portrait Session

Lori-Ann is the owner of Pawsitive Dawgs Training & Pet Services and she needed some updated images of her dog Murphy for use on her website and in her marketing materials. She has a beautiful old car that has been perfectly restored and decorated with her logo on the windows. She wanted to include the car in some of the images with Murphy in or on the car, and with the Calgary skyline in the background. I suggested that we met at Rotary Park (in Northeast Calgary) because it has easy access to some great views of the city and also a beautiful green space that we could use for the portraits. It was a beautiful day and we got some great photos! About PDawgs: Pawsitive Dawgs will challenge your thinking and what you’ve learned about dog training in the past. We offer a 'no fluff, no nonsense' training method that will help you create a true bond of mutual trust and respect between you and your dog, all without using treats or other masking tools such as prong or choke collars. We may just have a little fun along the way too! Read More...

Headquarters Bookkeeping & Tax | Better Business Portraits

I went into the offices of a Calgary based Headquarters Bookkeeping & Tax to create new headshots for each of their employees for use on their website. They have recently expanded into some extra office space and they had a great conference room that I could use to set up my portable studio equipment to do their portraits right in their workspace. I really enjoy working on-location and this was a perfect situation where I was able to make it easy for the employees to go about their business until I needed them... Headquarters provide consulting, bookkeeping, management, tax, and corporate registry services for small businesses in the Calgary area. They specialize in improving the financial health of trade professionals (construction, carpentry, or other contract services), but they also work with other small businesses to get their finances in order.
